Nike’s 225 Studio in NYC

Last month, via W+K alum Asia Wright, Joe and Rehanah got the interesting opportunity to re-design an internal Nike presentation showcasing one of Nike’s most interesting and unique endeavors – 255 Studio in NYC.

255 is a one of a kind design/retail space where Nike hosts top talent from the New York creative community to mix seasonally relevant sport and design and give consumers a hands on product experience. Consumers can select from a robust assortment of unique apparel and embellishment created exclusively within 255 Studio, or can customize the experience with a 255 Studio Design Consultant. These one-on-one appointments allow the consumer to choose from a menu of applications applied to Nike Sportswear icons. A consumer can also draw inspiration from the available graphics to embark on a bespoke experience resulting in a garment that is truly one of a kind and available immediately.

The books we created needed to reflect this sportswear culture as well as the unique qualities of the 255 Studio. They were printed and stitch-bound to stay with the bespoke apparel theme, and covers and end leaves were silkscreened with black ink on black paper stock. Each book was packaged in its own zippered pouch, sewn in-house from cotton fleece in organic heather grey and black. We created five color-ways and embellished each pouch with custom 3D embroidery.

Don’t let Haiti fall off your radar.

The Haiti Poster Project took a few overprints of our Handpulled for Haiti Posters. Keep Haiti on your mind and give a little bit.

It’s the year 2010

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Feb

When some people think of 2010, they may think of Arther C. Clarke’s book. We took it as an opportunity to celebrate the New Year by designing a calendar. Brad Simon put together this project.

The calendar project was started as a way to try and take advantage of our great new screen printing room as well as take advantage of some of the diverse talent in the studio. The calendar format seemed perfect.

Each designer was given a page size (8 x 10), paper stock (French Kraft) and two colors (black and white) to design, leaving it open on how they would interpret their chosen month. The only other limitation was that it had to somehow incorporate the days of that month. How they did that was up to them. What we got was a great range of designs and styles that make each month of the calendar unique and surprising.

“Silks” (a.k.a. Walker Cahall) has been spending time printing these bad boys and now they’re for sale. They’re pretty limited, so put your order in.

Feb: Erik Blad
Mar: Sam Tudyk
Apr: Paul Levy
May: Curtis Pachunka
Jun: Brad Simon
Jul: Sarah Hollowood
Aug: Steve Denekas
Sep: Chris Lael Larson
Oct: Dani Guralnick
Nov: Cari Vander Yacht
Dec: Peter Yue
Jan 2011: Mike Weihs

Also we got some other little treats that might tickle your fancy. And we got it on the Flickr.

More Inferno for you and your family.

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

The circle of Greed and Hording gave way to the circle of Anger. The studio elves has been cranking away building all sorts of things to send to people for a new game coming soon. We packaged a minature Rick Astley in each box and sent him off to some influential bloggers.  Big ups to all those working on the boxes only to have them destroyed.

Under the cover of night: Design Night

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

deck_8574

Studio’s own Tram Pham with her husband Dominic D’Andrea (together, they are Design Night) created a beautiful planter called, Nature. It’s a modern ceramic planter intended for growing a variety of herbs and flowers. The form takes inspiration from patterns and shapes found in nature, hence the name. The largest opening at the top can hold plants that need to root deeper. Opening like a blossom, the form allows each pocket to collect water.

Their one of a kind planter also caught the design eye of Apartment Therapy Design and were recently showcased.

Nice work, Tram!
