DTMIB_releaseparty_sm

Cari recently finished her latest book project. It’s got a bunch of her friends and admired creatives smooshed into the pages. Pick up an advanced copy at the opening party.

Tatum, Neevel, Erik Blad, and Matthew Carey and a bunch of famous and unfamous contributors too awesome to list. Don’t sleep on this.

It’s the year 2010

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Feb

When some people think of 2010, they may think of Arther C. Clarke’s book. We took it as an opportunity to celebrate the New Year by designing a calendar. Brad Simon put together this project.

The calendar project was started as a way to try and take advantage of our great new screen printing room as well as take advantage of some of the diverse talent in the studio. The calendar format seemed perfect.

Each designer was given a page size (8 x 10), paper stock (French Kraft) and two colors (black and white) to design, leaving it open on how they would interpret their chosen month. The only other limitation was that it had to somehow incorporate the days of that month. How they did that was up to them. What we got was a great range of designs and styles that make each month of the calendar unique and surprising.

“Silks” (a.k.a. Walker Cahall) has been spending time printing these bad boys and now they’re for sale. They’re pretty limited, so put your order in.

Feb: Erik Blad
Mar: Sam Tudyk
Apr: Paul Levy
May: Curtis Pachunka
Jun: Brad Simon
Jul: Sarah Hollowood
Aug: Steve Denekas
Sep: Chris Lael Larson
Oct: Dani Guralnick
Nov: Cari Vander Yacht
Dec: Peter Yue
Jan 2011: Mike Weihs

Also we got some other little treats that might tickle your fancy. And we got it on the Flickr.

Rumor mill is going full steam

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Found this a while back and finally got to posting it. Dave used to work in the studio and was nice enough to check in with a few cohorts about his managers.  Trickery ensues…

Dirty Dim Sum

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Who:
The lovely people who like Chinese food.

What:
Dim Sum (uglier cousin of sophisticated sushi).

Once in a blue moon we venture out to dim sum on the other side of the river.  Thanks Cathy and Sarah for encapsulating the dim sum experience.  Check out the panning views.  Eat your heart out, Martin Scorsese.

Kelly has the fair and balanced version from the point of view of the lazy susan. We’ll do it again. Bigger tables, bigger group, and bigger appetites.

Studio Retreat 2009 at the Starr Compound

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

DSC_6029

Shortly after the Swiss Miss talk we all packed out cars with fun things and headed to Sarah Starr’s house in Oregon City. We drank spirits, ate great food, and for some reason did some line dancing (but when you switch the music, it becomes the electric slide).

Here are few pictures. Good times.

Photos courtesy of everybody.

Bring your lunch and listen to Tina talk about what brought her from the Swiss Alps to the Big Apple and how her blog turned her into a “networked designer”. Oh, and she’ll talk about her eccentric aunt. Really. Tina also hosts Creative Mornings in NYC.  This little chat is open to all.

Cupid stikes Wedding+Kennedy. What is this number 37*?  Studio designer Christin Spagnoli and Joint editor Matthew Hilber met at W+K Founders Day 25. He asked her her thoughts on cockfights, she thought his name was Corky. Two years later, it’s wedding bliss. Congrats to Christin and Matt!

*Please note: Christin thinks there have been around 37 couples that found their soul mates within the halls of WK globally.  Plus or minus 30.
