We Must Make Things

Hardly anything is as inspiring as a glimpse into the world of an artist/craftsman who has been making things for several decades of their lives. An intense zeal surrounds these folks who can’t refrain from making stuff, getting their hands dirty in their quest to collect, connect, explore and create, often by old-fashioned means or with things that have been overlooked or discarded. The people at Etsy are doing a fantastic job of showcasing this maker’s spirit, especially with their series of videos documenting some of the most inspiring and interesting makers around. Honestly, I recommend that you watch them all.

Butch Anthony is interesting and quite original. He built his home with found materials and his hands, and it’s absolutely beautiful. There’s some wonderful shots in the New York Times.

John Jay recently sent this out in an email with the subject line “Why We Must Make Stuff”. A truly stunning portrait of a craftsman restoring and collecting vintage motorcycles.
