Art Explosion

StudioArtShow-5

Following the heels of Sam’s art show we have all sorts of stuff popping up. We got lots of art being sold by studio members. Four people were cleaning their collective art closets and selling great work.

Tram and her husband were selling these nice little numbers.

Nature is a modern ceramic planter intended for growing a variety of herbs and flowers. Nature is carefully hand-crafted, hand-finished and glazed right here in Portland, Oregon. The form takes inspiration from patterns and shapes found in nature, hence the name. The largest opening at the top can hold plants that need to root deeper. Opening like a blossom, the form allows each pocket to collect water.

The planter is made using a complex six-part mold (compared to the typical two- to four-part mold) with seventeen post-molding cuts. Three holes on the bottom allow for drainage. The planter is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Nature recently placed Bronze in the 2009 Spark Awards (an international design competition that recognizes innovative product design, graphic design and architecture) and will be featured in the April issue of Dwell.

SAM TUDYK
Do you love type? So did Sam. She spent her days with it. She dreamt about it. She took long walks on the beach with it. And then she painted it. However, Sam and type are on the rocks. Some say they might even break up. Sam swears she might never return to it. We bought some and we didn’t regret it.

SEF MCCULLOUGH
Vintage, B-sides, and nudies: works on paper from 2003 forward that have redeeming qualities but never made it to the Louvre. These great values in figurative art were available to collectors with a distinguishing eye and shallow pockets. All works were bid auction style.
