Goodness Factory is firing up again
Wednesday, September 1st, 2010First Thursday is getting stacked
Wednesday, September 1st, 2010We have one big show going on down the street, but within our own walls there’s another great one from one of Studio’s own, Mark Shepard.
Countless years ago, the dark, ruthless waterfall hunter and broken superhero Black Diamond fell in love with one of his lovely prey, the tender-hearted waterfall known as Jonya Foss. The exact details of their unusual affair is unknown but we are fortunate to have these mystical fragments Black Diamond left behind - including cryptic drawings, photographs, love letters and home video footage – that merely hint at the length, beauty and tragedy of their story. These fragments were discovered by the Waterfall-nurters and historians known as Lovers©, who came across the artifacts near the now-dry beds of Jonya Foss. The Luvers© have assembled an archive to try to make sense of the broken narrative that was left behind. They are calling upon you dear viewers to help unravel this awkward & enchanting love story.
More info here: urbanintimacy.org Luvers© is (Krista Connerly & Mark Shepherd)
Chris Hornbecker’s One Millimeter Project will be also showing in conjunction
First Thursday in the Summer
Monday, August 23rd, 2010Got this missive from the internet.
Hey Webmaster Nerd Guy. A couple of us in the studio are having a First Thursday art show and wanted to know if you could put it on the blog this week?
It’s a one night only show. Its at the Cleaners (Ace Hotel) September 2nd (First Thursday) 6-10pm.
Free keg beer and food, a live DJ, and some great art everyone can afford to proudly display.Thank you!!!!!!
Seems like this one is pretty much a sure winner for good stuff. You’ll see some studio peoples (and a studio hall of famer) and their artwork. Give them the love and support that they deserve. See you there!
Ms. Harris doesn’t lie, EVER.

From Germany to San Diego to Durham to PDX.
Went to a small art school in SD. met my beautiful husband. moved to Durham, NC. went back to school. bought a house. had a baby. Missed the west coast so much it hurt. Came to visit Portland in winter. Came again the following winter and banged on WK’s door. Hi-fived with my husband and baby and swore to be moved out here by the following June.

P&G and whatever people (Joe) throw my way.

What’s a random, fun fact that others would love to hear?
I can’t lie.

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010Holy crap he works here!!! YAY!
How did you get here?
I was lucky and got invited by my good pal Katie McHugh to participate in the Hand Pulled for Haiti poster benefit. The poster sold-out, and the following week I had an interview with Michele. I received some very constructive, and specific feedback on my portfolio, something I’ve never received from an interview, so I revisited my book, and worked extremely hard to fill the holes and address the feedback and came back to show it to a group of studio managers. The effort I spent on refining my book was well worth it.
Who/what inspires you?
I’m inspired by authenticity and genuine enthusiasm in people (Kate Bingaman-Burt). I’m often inspired by work that exhibits high levels of craftsmanship, but I also love stuff that’s just crazy creative and off the wall. I like creative duos and collectives, I find them more interesting than individuals. I like the group of dudes behind Thinking for a Living and all the interesting stuff that seems to be happening with PSU’s Graphic Design department. I went to the big student portfolio show (BE HONEST), and was floored by some of the work, and just the overall vibe of the program. I’m a big fan of the Hugo + Marie roster of artists, especially the talented, and well mannered Micah Lidberg. I’m super excited about the work coming from local duo Script & Seal – Gavin Potenza and Liz Meyer. I’m quite fond of London’s Evening Tweed collective, and NY’s Pencil Factory. Dig those Austin bros at Public School.
What do you work on here at Wieden+Kennedy?
I’m a designer working on Procter & Gamble.
Easy question, what do you do outside of work?
I’m a family guy, and spend as much time as I can with my wife and kids. We spend a ton of time hanging out at the parks. Kids need to run around, and I just enjoy being outside in the setting of kids playing and having fun— reminds me of my childhood, and makes me feel good. It’s a time of reflection and thoughtfulness for me.
What’s a random, fun fact that others would love to hear?
I have a Kuncle, or is it Cuncle? You know, a cousin-uncle. My cousin was adopted by my grandparents, is all really. It’s a common Idaho thing. When I was growing up, he was the coolest dude in the world, he was the first guy I ever knew who had a perm, he could shred every Metallica solo on the guitar, and made his own swords. A total badass. You could also say he was an inspiration.
What do you love to do?
Make things. Make music. Skateboard. Parent. Ride bikes. Eat food. Drink beer. Collaborate. Think. Look at pictures in books. Discuss. Listen. I could go on and on…
If you could interview one other person in the studio, who would it be and why?
Steve Denekas. His spirit is ancient and magical.
What’s the best thing that ever happened to you?
My children, no doubt. In a way, I get to relive my childhood. I get to experience adventure, wonder, and witness how new everything is to them. I’ll never forget the first time I pushed my daughter in a swing, I suddenly realized, this is the first time she’s ever experienced this, and I get to share that with her, along with many more experiences as she grows up. Nothing is better than that.

HR Problematic Birthdays

Saturday, June 26th, 2010Secret World Cup correspondent has captured some moments of World Cup Madness. This time it’s USA vs England. Check out the faces of Fra and Barwick at the local pub. If you look closely, Studio Hall of Famer, Floyd is in the mix as well. Captain America even made it out to the match.
USA is happy to squeek a tie with the country that invented the sport. But we’re more happy that we caught the looks on a few our beloved studio mate’s faces.
Come on England!
Not happy about that.
USA gets the goal!
Rubbish.
Big Claps.

World Cup Press Kit!
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010Check it out. Studio’s Matt Blum, Kelly Wright, and Brad Simon came up with this. It’s amazing. Wooden portion contributed by the talented Mr. Weeman.
When artist, Diem Chau, sent us these crayons she had deftly wittled, we had suspicions that she was in possession of tiny gerbil hands. Further inspection on her site indicates her hands to be quite lovely and normal sized. Regardless, she didn’t sleep much during the production of these little wonders and everyone in studio has been admiring them (until Kelly yells to put them down before they destroy them with their meaty designer paws.)
Holy crap additional thanks to Ademar, Denise, Erik, Shari, Jackie, John, Joani, Katie, Krystle, and Kyle!!!
